Crucible was engaged by SMEC to undertake review of the reference design, develop specifications and provide Owners Engineering services for the $900m design and construction of water infrastructure for the Gladstone Area Water Board to augment water supply to the city of Gladstone.

The project consisted of a river intake pump station, treatment plant and 115km long DN1000 HDPE and MSCL pipeline to deliver 100 ML/d (1157L/s) of into the city’s raw water network.

Crucible initially undertook detailed review of the reference design documentation for the pipeline, and subsequently undertook a substantial amendment and updating of the tender documentation for the entire works.

Following award of the project to the McConnell Dowell-BMD joint venture, Crucible was engaged to undertake owners engineering services as part of the SMEC OE team. This consisted of detailed reviews of all design documentation prepared for the project, participation in HAZOPs and Safety in design workshops, provision of technical advice, and oversight of the execution of the construction phase work.
